This is a terrible tragedy. All these people, these fans of batman, wanted to do, was go to a movie and escape. I think Kevin Smith said it the best: If you are artistically inclined in any form, go out and create something that will make people happy. In a world where things like this can happen we need creative people to go and create things that make people escape. A work of art, a song, a story, a poem. Anything to make people inspired.
I chose to do this image of batman because the character just wants to be at peace with himself. I think a light shining on the dark is what we all need to see right now.

A beautiful tribute, and I wholeheartedly agree about art and creative expression being the ideal outlet in the wake of horrific tragedies such as the one that took place in Aurora. I love how stark and austere you made Batman look, you created a sombre mood that carries with it much emotion, when one considers the inspiration for it. This is an article I wrote for a movie magazine after the incident happened; I would appreciate it if you could have a look. [link] Thank you.
your article was fantastic. I use the movie theater to escape as much as anyone, and when the shooting occurred I couldnt believe someone would do that in a place where reality is ignored for a bit. Very great words. And thanks very much for liking my drawing!
Thank you so much for reading it and I appreciate your compliments. I think very many people use the movie theater to escape, and this incident kind of said "hey, even a movie theater isn't safe anymore" - it struck the public consciousness with fear as much as with sadness, but it was very heartening to see the outflow of support towards the Aurora Community (including a visit Christian Bale paid to the victims in hospital) and to see pieces of art made in tribute, such as yours. You're very welcome in return!
No prob I really loved it. I agree, It didnt stop me from seeing the movie over and over but yea that idea of theaters not even being safe anymore is incredibly scary to me. Hopefully nothing like that ever happens again. And bale did a great thing, something I think, batman in real life would have done.
